Blue New Mexico Small Saturn
Saturns are matter and energy rotating around a Planet or singularity (black hole). Josh has created Saturns since the early 1990s, in sizes ranging from 12” in diameter for his earliest works to disks larger than 24” across, using techniques that have evolved over time.
Small Saturns are a new generation, similar in their compact size to Josh’s earliest works but now made using methods that give him maximum aesthetic and conceptual control of the process.
In this solid glass Saturn, a Blue New Mexico disk “rotates” around a colorful New Mexico Little Planet. This Saturn comes with a custom-fitted metal stand that holds the work upright, allowing both the front and back to be displayed.
10” diameter; signed Simpson on the back and serialized 3.8.23
