Corona Glass "Josiah" Saturn
Josh started making Saturns more than 30 years ago, inspired by space missions that studied the rings of the planet Saturn. The resulting sculptures evoke the idea of matter and energy swirling around a Planet or, more recently, around a black hole singularity. Saturns exemplify Josh’s mastery of both blown work (the disks) and hot glass solid work (the Planets).
In this Saturn, a 3.5” New Mexico Planet is surrounded by a disc of beautiful swirling multi-hued Corona Glass. This Saturn comes with a solid metal (anodized black) stand, which enables both front and back of this dramatic work to be viewed.
19” diameter; signed Josiah Simpson, indicating it is one of Josh’s favorites, and serialized 1.1.19
